Finland Emigration

EU citizens are free to remain and work in Finland without a residence permit for a maximum of three months. After that period has passed, you must register your right to live in Finland, but a special residence permit is not required.

Members of the EEA (of which the UK is one), and their spouses and dependent children under 21 do not need a work permit.

A list of the countries that belong to the European Economic Area can be found on the following website:

EU citizens are able to freely engage in business in Finland after they have registered their right to live in Finland with the local police department. They do not need a separate residence permit.

EU citizens are required to visit the registry office for the registration of basic personal information. When you register, you will need a certificate issued by the police confirming your right to live in Finland and a passport, as well as a certificate of marriage and the children's birth certificates if the family accompanies the applicant to Finland.

Individuals resident in the EEA are entitled to conduct business and legal trade in Finland without a business licence, as long as they maintain good practice.

Personal Identity Code

Everybody in Finland has a personal identity code. Foreigners who choose to permanently live and work in Finland, and also those who stay in the country for more than a year, you are issued a personal identity code. You need the code when applying for pensions or benefits. It is also required for the payment of salaries. You will usually need it when opening a bank account. It is also designed to improve date protection.
