Car Rental in Egypt
The renter must provide a credit card, passport and national or International driving license. You can rent a car for around 35-50 EGP a day. These are just guidelines, so do check with the car hire company to clarify the cost and documentation needed.
Speed limits are in kilometres per hour, and are as follows:
- Desert Motorways: 100kph/60mph
- Motorways: 90kph/56mph
Egyptians drive on the right-hand side of the road.
Driving in Egypt is an arduous to say the least, and requires complete focus and appliance. There is no logic to the traffic, and does take some understanding. Congestion is terrible, drivers are undisciplined and the roads are in bad condition. Traffic lights and regulations are generally dismissed, and accidents are frequent. Drivers enjoy the sound of their horns too. There aren't many road signs out there, but the ones you find will be in Arabic and English.
