Hi Kate we have just started selling our products in America and I love the Americans. They seem quite blunt, is it always important to ‘get down to business’ right away? Thanks, Samantha Question from Sam Hastings on 04/03/2010
Kate says:
Hi Samantha,
We can never say something will "always" happen in another culture, but in terms of general trends: yes, Americans tend to like to 'get down to business' quickly. In the US, 'time is money.' So part of the reason for this focus on business is a matter of trying to be efficient and respect another person's time.
Individuals who are accustomed to spending a large amount of energy and time on relationship-building before focusing in on business may be surprised by how quickly Americans want to talk contracts, business opportunities, and get right to the heart of the issue at hand.
Kind regards, Kate
